How do I Choose a Pool Table?

When selecting the best pool table for your home, consider from the size of your room to the types of games you will be playing. Key Considerations: Functionality, Will you only play pool? Or are you interested in additional games? Conversion tops allow you to play ping pong on top of your air hockey or pool table or even convert it to a dining top to host dinner, Also, consider storage, some tables have an integrated pull-out storage drawer, or you can purchase a separate wall or floor rack for your balls and cue. Size, Pool Table Sizes and Room Size Requirements Pool tables are measured from the inside of their playing area: the distance from the tip of the rail cushion to the opposite rail tip. This area is always twice as long as it is wide. The four standard sizes for pool tables are commonly known as seven foot, eight foot, oversized eight foot, and nine foot. Seven Foot, These tables have a playing area of 39 by 78 inches. They are ideal for smaller rooms, or rooms that will share with other furniture. It is the common size for the bar room coin-operated pool tables. Eight Foot, This is the most common size for household use and has a playing area of 44 by 88 inches. This size is what most refer to as the standard size for home use. Oversized Eight Foot, These tables have a playing surface of 46 by 92 inches. Historically, many commercial tables were built in this size. Often, tables are not available in this particular size. Nine Foot, The professional tournaments are generally played on this table size which measures 50 by 100 inches on its playing surface. This is the most challenging size and are recommended for the advanced players that really want to work on their game. Room Size Requirements: Pool tables are measured by the inside playing area, from the tip of one rail cushion to the opposite rail tip. The playing area is always twice as long as it is wide. To determine the minimum room dimensions, add a full cue length of 57 inches to each side of the inside playing area. The optimum room has no obstacles within a cue length of any part of the playing area. Cue height typically clears most furniture, allowing for unobstructed play, though shorter cues can be used for shots around posts, corners, and walls. Select Location, Will the table be indoors, outdoors, or both?, consider whether the table will need weather durability.

What accessories should I obtain when purchasing a pool table?

Basic accessories are: 2 cues, a bridge, 8 and 9 ball racks, a two piece cue wall rack, a brush, and a set of balls. You have the option to upgrade your play kit to a multiple player Platinum or Centennial option.

What do I need to know about cues?

The majority of cues are two-piece comprising a forearm or butt with a one piece maple shaft. Pro style cues have low deflection shafts made by slicing pie shaped pieces together from 8 to 12 pieces. For these cues, graphics are hand or machine inlays, exotic woods, and more. Higher end cues generally have low deflection shafts, and many are made in USA. Low deflection shafts are stiffer and shoot straighter, but require lots of practice to get used to. Budget cues generally do not have low deflection shafts. They are made overseas (usually in China). Decorative details are decals and laminates. Carbon Fiber shafts are the newest trend. A carbon fiber shaft offers extra durability and won't ding, nick or scratch as easily as a wood shaft can. This is known to be a nuisance to every pool player. A carbon fiber shaft is smoother and slicker than a wood shaft. This is due to a wood shaft being prone to collecting the oils off your hand, thus the chalk and dirt accumulating and creating an uncomfortable feeling while in stroke, with the shaft sticking to your skin. A carbon fiber shaft is a slick material to begin with and with the added cue finishing process, the results offer the smoothest shaft that stays cleaner and glides so smoothly across the skin. The smoother carbon fiber thus eliminates the usage of the cone chalk hand powder, which can be messy. Throw a glove on and you'll be gliding like the moonwalk dance. A carbon fiber shaft ultimately offers the best value by combining the most enhanced performing, least deflection shaft in the market, for the all-around pool player and hustler!Let us help you find the perfect table for you!
